Movable heritage
Movable heritage is divided into two categories of property: documents and heritage objects.
What is a heritage document?
The heritage document is a medium on which information is carried in the form of words, sounds or images.
The document must present artistic, emblematic, ethnological, historical, scientific, technological value or several of them.
A heritage document can be, for example: archives a manuscript a book a photograph a movie.
The support itself does not necessarily present a heritage interest.
For example, a film that has artistic or historical value can be considered a heritage document, even if it is preserved on a simple DVD.
What is a heritage object?
The heritage object is movable property other than a heritage document.
It must present archaeological, artistic, emblematic, ethnological, historical, scientific, technological value or several of them.
A heritage object can be, among other things: a painting a musical instrument tools the prototype of a machine furniture a garment an artifact found during archaeological excavations.
